Hans J. Bentzon – Principal, LEED® AP
Hans J. Bentzon is instrumental in managing LBB, growing its presence nationwide and working with national home builders to help them develop more cost-effective products through value engineering. The innovative methods he has established have made a significant, enduring impact on home construction methods – particularly in Florida.
A diverse variety of projects has given Bentzon experience in the creative problem solving that provided the basis for identifying and meeting even more challenging needs. His early commercial designs for such clients as ABC Fine Wine & Spirits, McDonalds and Winn Dixie emphasized structural steel design – as did his specialty projects, which included a satellite tracking tower for Harris Corp. at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center. His pioneering work included developing a software program using parametic modeling to design complex templates for cutting multiple steel pipes fitting into one connection.
After Hurricane Andrew devastated South Florida in 1992, Bentzon created a training course focusing on the requirements to engineer hurricane-resistant residential structures. Gaining a reputation as an expert on the subject, he helped such large tract builders as Pulte Home Corp. get their backlog of permits approved, and continues to develop design techniques unique to the home building industry. Bentzon also developed a sophisticated project management software system that manages up to 15,000 jobs per year, which is used by LBB.
Bentzon is certified by the National Association of Home Builders as a Certified Green Professional™. This designation recognizes builders, remodelers and other industry professionals who incorporate green building principles into homes — without driving up the cost of construction. Classwork leading to the designation provides a solid background in green building methods, as well as the tools to reach consumers, from the organization leading the charge to provide market-driven green building solutions to the home building industry.
Bentzon graduated from Texas A & M University with a Bachelor of Science, Industrial Technology, and is a Florida Certified General Contractor.
